Abstract

Background and Objective: Bariatric surgery is the most effective treatment for morbid obesity. The classic procedure, jejunoileal bypass, has many complications. This study was carried out to assess the evaluation of clinical complications in morbid obese patients after modified jejunoileal bypass surgery. Method: This descriptive – analytic study was carried out on 120 morbid obese patients referred for bariatric surgery. A modified jejunoileal bypass was performed in which the defunctionalized organ eliminated by anastomosing its ends to the gall bladder and cecum. Weight loss and clinical complications were recorded after one year follow up. Results: The mean weight and body mass index reduced from 136 kg and 48 kg/m2 before surgery to 83 kg and 29/8 kg/m2 after one year follow up, respectively (P<0.05). Before surgery, articular pain (24.3%), dispana (21.6%), cardiovascular disorders (10.8%), fatty liver (5.4%) and sleep disorder (5.4%) due to obesity were recorded. One year follow up after surgery, articular pain (1.5%) and dispana (1.5%) were seen in patiants. No serious post-operative clinical complication was observed. Conclusion: One year follow up after surgery showed that the modified jejunoileal bypass is very effective in reducing body weight and does not lead to serious complication.

Abstract

Background and Objective: There are relations between rate of loading, osteoarthritis and genu varum result in osteoarthritis. This study was done to compare the peak vertical ground reaction forces and the rate of loading during single leg drop landing between men with genu varum deformity and normal knee from three heights. Methods: This quasi-experimental studywas carried out on 20 male students with genu varum deformity and 20 male students with normal knee. Genu varum deformity was measured and recorded by collis and goniometer. Subjects performed single-leg landing dropping from three heights (20, 40, 60 Centimeter) on a force platform. Results: The peak vertical ground reaction force in calcaneus contact and the rate of loading between groups significantly were different (P<0.05). No significant difference was found in the peak vertical ground reaction during toe contact. Conclusion: Frontal knee angle affect on loading rate. Maybe one of the reasons for higher injury risk and knee arthritis in genu varum population might be due to higher ground reaction forces and the rate of high loading.

Abstract

Background and Objective: Skeleton abnormalities have adverse effect on skeleton structure and natural shape of hight. This study was done to compare the postural position and body mass index in elementary male students in public and private elementary schools. Methods: This descriptive - analytic study was done on 1254 boys (627 subjects of elementary public school and private elementary schools Abhar city in North West of Iran. Weight and height and body mass index of students were measured. Stature abnormalities measured with Bob, Kayfometer, Goniometer, Caliper and Padscope. Results: BMI of students was more in private school (18.23±3.76) in compare to public schools (17.4±3.46) (P<0.05). Scoliosis, kyphosis, flat back, lordosis, flat foot and pescavus abnormalities was more in students of public schools in comparision with private school (P<0.05). Conclusion: Physical inactivity and lack of adequate exercise space in private schools cause over weight and stature abnormalities.
